The stone

Which stone suits you?

Natural granite and marble, or engineered surfaces from Cosentino. Each has its strengths; our showroom team will help you choose.

Stone samples

Granite

Natural stone. Every slab is one of a kind.

  • Very hard: 6 to 7 on the Mohs scale, so it resists scratches
  • Handles heat well, ideal for busy kitchens
  • Not affected by lemon, vinegar or tomato
  • Seal every 1 to 2 years to keep stains out

Marble

Natural stone with soft, flowing veins. The classic for bathrooms, stairs and statement kitchens.

  • Each slab has its own veining
  • Softer than granite (3 to 5 Mohs) and builds a gentle patina with age
  • Acids such as lemon, vinegar and wine can dull the polish, so wipe spills quickly
  • Seal regularly, around once a year

Silestone

Quartz surface by Cosentino.

  • Non-porous: no sealing needed
  • Highly resistant to stains and scratches
  • Even colour from one end of the slab to the other
  • Use a trivet under hot pans

Dekton

Ultracompact surface by Cosentino.

  • Hot pans can go straight onto it
  • UV resistant, so it will not fade outdoors
  • Highly resistant to scratches and stains
  • Never needs sealing

Edge finishing guide

Choose your edge

The edge is the part you touch and see most. Every edge is polished to match the face of the stone.

Eased edge

Eased

Square edge with the corners just softened. Clean and modern, and it shows the full thickness of the stone.

Pencil edge

Pencil

Square edge with small rounded corners top and bottom. Simple, and softer to the touch than eased.

1/4" Bevel edge

1/4" Bevel

A small 45° cut along the top corner (about 6 mm). Crisp and understated.

1/2" Bevel edge

1/2" Bevel

A wider 45° cut along the top corner (about 12 mm). Catches the light along the front.

1/2" Bullnose edge

1/2" Bullnose

The top corner is rounded over, the bottom stays square. Gentle on arms leaning on the counter.

Demi Bullnose edge

Demi Bullnose

A deeper curve rolling down the front, square underneath. A soft, classic look.

Full Bullnose edge

Full Bullnose

Fully rounded top and bottom. The softest edge, kind to hips and small children.

How it works

When we fit it for you

How a made-to-measure top comes together. About one week from payment to installation.

  1. Measure

We measure your kitchen, vanity or stairs on site, so the stone fits the cabinets and walls you actually have.

  2. Template

A template is made with the sink, hob and tap positions marked, so every cut is planned before we touch the stone.

  3. Choose your slab

On request, come and pick the exact slab, so you see the veining and colour your top will be cut from.

  4. Cut to your specification

We cut the slab in our own workshop to your template, including the sink and hob openings.

  5. Edge finish & polish

Each visible edge is shaped to the profile you choose and polished to match the face of the stone.

  6. Deliver & install

We deliver the finished stone and install it, or have it ready for collection.

The finishing touch

A matching board, cut from your slab

When we cut your top, we can make a chopping or serving board from the same slab, so it carries the same colour and veining as your counter.

It is cut and polished in our workshop along with your top. Whether it can be made depends on the stone and on the offcut left from your job, so it is available on selected slabs. Ask our team when you order.
