Planning a bathroom: a checklist

A beautiful bathroom is mostly good decisions made in the right order. Our showroom teams use this checklist.

1. Measure and mark the services

Draw the room with doors, windows and where water and drainage come in. It decides where the WC, basin and shower can go.

2. Choose the WC and its drainage

Close-coupled, back-to-wall or wall-hung, and P- or S-trap. A wall-hung WC needs a concealed frame, planned before the walls are closed.

3. Shower first, then tiles

Decide on a shower system or a concealed valve, and a linear drain or tray. Check water pressure for rain heads. Only then choose floor tiles, with a slip rating suited to wet feet.

4. Basin, mixer and vanity together

Countertop basins need a tall mixer or a wall spout; wall-hung basins suit compact rooms. Match the tap holes and the mixer height.

5. Finish with accessories

Towel rails, holders and grab bars from one collection tie the room together. Fix them into solid backing or plan fixings before tiling.
